Two strains (JC83, JC84(T)) of obligately anaerobic, H2S-producing bacteria were isolated from estuarine sediment samples collected from Gangasagar, West Bengal, India. Cells were Gram-stain-negative, non-motile rods. Both strains were positive for oxidase, negative for catalase, hydrolysed casein, reduced nitrate and utilized citrate. Both strains grew chemoorganoheterotrophically with optimal pH of 7-8 (range 7-10) and at 30 °C (range 25-37 °C). C16 : 1ω7c, C18 : 1ω7c, C16 : 0 and C12 : 0… Expand

Physiological and genomic characterization of Arcobacter anaerophilus IR-1 reveals new metabolic features in Epsilonproteobacteria
TLDR
This study shows that traditional characterization in combination with a modern genomics approach can expand the knowledge on free-living Arcobacter, and that this complementary approach could also provide invaluable knowledge about the physiology and metabolic pathways in other Epsilonproteobacteria from various environments. Expand
Arcobacter lanthieri sp. nov., isolated from pig and dairy cattle manure.
TLDR
It is proposed that the isolates found to be oxidase, catalase and esterase positive and urease negative are classified as members of a novel species with the name Arcobacter lanthieri sp. Expand
Diversity, enumeration, and isolation of Arcobacter spp. in the giant abalone, Haliotis gigantea
TLDR
Investigation of the genetic diversity and abundance of bacteria from the genus Arcobacter in the Japanese giant abalone, Haliotis gigantea, using molecular methods such asArcobacter‐specific clone libraries and fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) indicates that abalones carry Arcobacterial genus which includes uncultured species. Higher Water Temperature and Incubation under Aerobic and Microaerobic Conditions Increase the Recovery and Diversity of Arcobacter spp. from Shellfish
TLDR
This study shows the highest diversity of Arcobacter species ever observed in samples from any origin, being associated with an increase in water temperature during the summer and confirming that shellfish are a reservoir for a remarkable diversity ofArcobacter spp. Expand
