Systematic liquid chromatographic separation of poly-, oligo-, and monosaccharides

We describe “high-performance” liquid chromatography of urinary monosaccharides on a macroporous anionexchange resin (Hitachi 3013 N), with acetonitrile/water as eluent. The separated xylose, arabinose, D-fructose, mannose, galactose, and D-glucose were detected by means of a post-column reduction reaction of tetrazolium blue.Absolute limitsof detection were about 10 ng of monosaccharide. Lactose can also be measured.
