Galacturonosyltransferase 1 (GAUT1) is an alpha1,4-D-galacturonosyltransferase that transfers galacturonic acid from uridine 5'-diphosphogalacturonic acid onto the pectic polysaccharide homogalacturonan (Sterling et al., 2006). The 25-member Arabidopsis thaliana GAUT1-related gene family encodes 15 GAUT and 10 GAUT-like (GATL) proteins with, respectively, 56-84 and 42-53% amino acid sequence similarity to GAUT1. Previous phylogenetic analyses of AtGAUTs indicated three clades: A through C. A…

Evolution of pectin-synthesis-relevant galacturonosyltransferase gene family and its expression during cotton fiber development
TLDR
In the low strength fiber lines, GAUTs mainly participate in fiber elongation, whereas their major effect on cotton with high strength fiber is related to both elongation and thickening, laying the foundation for future research on gene function during cotton fiber development.
Evolution of pectin synthesis relevant galacturonosyltransferase gene family and its expression during cotton fiber development
Background Pectin is a key substance involved in cell wall development, and the galacturonosyltransferases (GAUTs) gene family is a critical participant in the pectin synthesis pathway. Systematic
Galacturonosyltransferase (GAUT)1 and GAUT7 are the core of a plant cell wall pectin biosynthetic homogalacturonan:galacturonosyltransferase complex
TLDR
This study provides conclusive evidence that the GAUT1:GAUT7 complex is the catalytic core of an HG:GalAT complex and that cell wall matrix polysaccharide biosynthesis occurs via protein complexes.
Evolution and Function of the Plant Cell Wall Synthesis-Related Glycosyltransferase Family 81[W][OA]
TLDR
The results show that the GAUTs, GATLs, and GATRs have a different evolutionary origin than other plant GT8 genes, were likely acquired from an ancient cyanobacterium (Synechococcus) progenitor, and separate into unique subclades that may indicate functional specialization.
Molecular Analysis of a Family of Arabidopsis Genes Related to Galacturonosyltransferases1[W][OA]
TLDR
The data presented suggest that the AtGATL genes encode proteins involved in cell wall biosynthesis, but their precise roles in wall biosynthetic remain to be substantiated.
Pectin Synthesis and Pollen Tube Growth in Arabidopsis Involves Three GAUT1 Golgi-Anchoring Proteins: GAUT5, GAUT6, and GAUT7
TLDR
It is indicated that GAUT5, GAUT6, and GAUT7 are required for synthesis of native HG in growing pollen tubes and have critical roles in pollen tube growth and male fertility in Arabidopsis.
Arabidopsis galacturonosyltransferase (GAUT) 13 and GAUT14 have redundant functions in pollen tube growth.
TLDR
The results suggest that GAUT13 and GAUT14 function redundantly in pollen tube growth, possibly through participation in pectin biosynthesis of the pollen tube wall.
GALACTURONOSYLTRANSFERASE-LIKE5 Is Involved in the Production of Arabidopsis Seed Coat Mucilage1[W][OPEN]
TLDR
Evidence is provided that AtGATL5 might function in the regulation of the final size of the mucilage rhamnogalacturonan I in seed coat mucilage of Arabidopsis.
Expansion and Evolutionary Patterns of Glycosyltransferase Family 8 in Gramineae Crop Genomes and Their Expression under Salt and Cold Stresses in Oryza sativa ssp. japonica
Plant cell walls play a fundamental role in several ways, providing structural support for cells, resistance against pathogens and facilitating the communication between cells. The
Cell Walls of Developing Wheat Starchy Endosperm: Comparison of Composition and RNA-Seq Transcriptome1[C][W][OA]
TLDR
Abundant transcripts in the GT31 family may be responsible for the addition of Gal residues to arabinogalactan peptide, and transcripts from GH families associated with the hydrolysis of these polysaccharides were also present, suggesting that they may be rapidly turned over.

Arabidopsis irregular xylem8 and irregular xylem9: Implications for the Complexity of Glucuronoxylan Biosynthesis[W]
TLDR
The results suggest that IRX9 is required for normal GX elongation and indicate roles for IRX8 and FRA8 in the synthesis of the glycosyl sequence at the GX reducing end.
The PARVUS gene is expressed in cells undergoing secondary wall thickening and is essential for glucuronoxylan biosynthesis.
TLDR
It is demonstrated that PARVUS, which is a member of family GT8, is required for the biosynthesis of the tetrasaccharide primer sequence, located at the reducing end of glucuronoxylan (GX) biosynthesis.
QUASIMODO1 is expressed in vascular tissue of Arabidopsis thaliana inflorescence stems, and affects homogalacturonan and xylan biosynthesis
TLDR
A specific role for QUA1 in the development of vascular tissue in rapidly elongating inflorescence stems is demonstrated and a role of qua1-1 in pectin and hemicellulose cell wall synthesis through affects on α-1,4-D-galacturonosyltransferase and β-1-4-xylan synthase activities is supported.
Biochemical and immunohistochemical analysis of pectic polysaccharides in the cell walls of Arabidopsis mutant QUASIMODO 1 suspension-cultured cells: implications for cell adhesion.
TLDR
Differences in the oligosaccharide profile obtained after endopolygalacturonase degradation of alkali extracts from qua1-1 and wt calli indicated variations in the structure of covalently bonded homogalacturonan.
The Arabidopsis irregular xylem8 Mutant Is Deficient in Glucuronoxylan and Homogalacturonan, Which Are Essential for Secondary Cell Wall Integrity[W]
TLDR
The data presented show thatIRX8 affects the level of glucuronoxylan and homogalacturonan in higher plants and that IRX8 provides an important link between the xylan polymer and the secondary cell wall matrix and directly affects secondary cell walls integrity.
MUCILAGE-MODIFIED4 Encodes a Putative Pectin Biosynthetic Enzyme Developmentally Regulated by APETALA2, TRANSPARENT TESTA GLABRA1, and GLABRA2 in the Arabidopsis Seed Coat1
TLDR
It is shown that MUM4 encodes a putative NDP-l-rhamnose synthase, an enzyme required for the synthesis of the pectin rhamnogalacturonan I, the major component of Arabidopsis mucilage, and the reduced cytoplasmic rearrangement observed in the absence of a key enzyme in pECTin biosynthesis in mum4 mutants establishes a causal link between mucilage production and cellular morphogenesis.
Homogalacturonan synthesis in Arabidopsis thaliana requires a Golgi-localized protein with a putative methyltransferase domain.
TLDR
The results lead to the hypothesis that QUA2 is a pectin MT, and that polymerization and methylation of homogalacturonan are interdependent reactions.
