The electro-optical space surveillance (EOSS) technology program at MIT/Lincoln Laboratory develops advanced electro-optical technology for space and missile surveillance. This advanced technology includes visible CCD focal plane arrays and cameras, mid-wave IR (MWIR) Shottky barrier focal planes and cameras, and the detection processing algorithms and processors to optimize the use of these focal plane arrays. Some of these EOSS technologies are highly suited to the detection of faint near…

A Two-Dimensional Intensified Photodiode Array For Imaging Spectroscopy
The Johns Hopkins University is currently developing an instrument to fly aboard NASA's space shuttle as a SPARTAN payload in the late 1980's. This SPARTAN free flyer will obtain spatially resolved
Detection of earth-approaching asteroids in near real time
Computer software, called the Moving Object Detection Program (MODP), is described which detects earth-approaching asteroids in near real time. The software runs on a workstation linked to the output
Use Of A Scanning Ccd To Discriminate Asteroid Images Moving In A Field Of Stars
We are using a charge-coupled device (CCD) in a scanning mode to find new asteroids and recover known asteroids and comet nuclei. Current scientific programs include recovery of asteroids and comet
Scanning with charge-coupled devices
The 0.91-m ‘Spacewatch Telescope’ of the Steward Observatory of the University of Arizona on Kitt Peak is dedicated to scanning with charge-coupled devices (CCDs) during the dark half of the month.
Optimal Three-Dimensional Matched Filter Processing for Detection of Point-Like Moving Objects in Clutter
Optimal signal enhancement and detection processing theory is applied to this model and a three-dimensional Fourier matched filter implementation is derived to compute clutter-to-noise ratio (CNR) suppression, signal- to-no noise ratio (SNR) enhancement, and probability of detection and false alarm rate estimates as a function of input single pixel SNR.
Search techniques for near-earth asteroids
A prototype observatory was constructed near Socorro, New Mexico to search for and observe earth-approaching asteroids. Hardware modifications were made so that the discrimination of artificial
