Applicative constructions and suppletive verbs in Hiaki
@inproceedings{Haugen2009ApplicativeCA, title={Applicative constructions and suppletive verbs in Hiaki}, author={Jason D. Haugen and Mercedes Tubino Blanco and Heidi Harley}, year={2009} }
Several intransitive verbs of motion or posture in Hiaki exhibit verb-stem suppletion conditioned by the number of the subject. ere are also a few suppletive transitive verbs conditioned by the number of the object. We argue in this paper that suppletion in these verb roots is triggered only by underlying objects, and that the intransitive members of this class of verbs are unaccusative. To show this, we exploit the properties of the Hiaki applicative morpheme, whi is productive with any…

The syntax and semantics of dative DPs in Russian ditransitives
- Linguistics

The interpretative and syntactic differences between scrambled and base generated high datives lead us to claim that in Russian, dative ditransitives have two distinct underlying structures that are not derivationally related.
On the syntax of applicative and causative constructions
- Linguistics
- 2014
This dissertation investigates the argument structure of verb phrases by identifying the syntactic roles and locations of the functional heads it consists of and shows that the tripartite hypothesis provides a syntactic account of the constraints on applicative and causative affix.
Lexical affixes, incorporation, and conflation: the case of Coeur d'Alene
- Linguistics
- 2011
It is argued that Lexical Affixes are arguments that incorporate syntactically (Baker 1988) along the lines of Harley (2004) who argues for a Conflation (Hale & Keyser 2002) analysis of compounding in English.

Cycles, vocabulary items, and stem forms in Hiaki
- Linguistics
- 2013
The Hiaki case provides a clear argument for Vocabulary Insertion applying to Root elements, as well as to f-morphemes, and the notion of a phasal cycle within the word proves useful in permitting a simple statement of the relevant conditioning context for the application of morphophonological rules.
On the identity of roots
- Linguistics
- 2014
This paper attempts to articulate the essential nature of the notion ‘root’ in the morphosyntax, and argues that roots must be individuated purely abstractly, as independent indices on the √ node in the syntactic computation that serves as the linkage between a particular set of spell-out instructions and a particularSet of interpretive instructions.
