The problem of selecting an appropriate wavelet filter is always present in the wavelet based image compression. In this study, we apply neural networks to wavelet filter selection. The purpose is to find a good filter for the compression of each multispectral image. Spectral characteristics from three different images are used in the training phase and then the neural network is used to select a good wavelet filter for each of the images.
