AIM To evaluate the phytochemical constituents and the aphrodisiac potential of the aqueous extract of Fadogia agrestis (Rubiaceae) stem in male albino rats. [] Key Method Male rats were orally dosed with 18 mg/kg, 50 mg/kg and 100 mg/kg body weight, respectively, of the extract at 24 h intervals and their sexual behavior parameters and serum testosterone concentration were evaluated at days 1, 3 and 5.

The increased blood testosterone and cholesterol concentrations by the ethanol extract of A. barbadensis can probably be said to be the possible mechanisms of action for its aphrodisiac property.

Aphrodisiac effect of aqueous root extract of Lecaniodiscus cupanioides in sexually impaired rats

Data obtained from this study revealed that the aqueous root extract of L. cupanioides restored sexual competence in sexually impaired male rats possibly by increasing sexual drive through enhanced reproductive hormones concentration, particularly testosterone, thus supporting the folkloric claim of the plant for the management of sexual disorder in males.

EVALUATION OF APHRODISIAC ACTIVITY OF METHANOLIC EXTRACT OF Cicer arietinum SEEDS IN SEXUALLY SLUGGISH MALE ALBINO RATS

From these effects the MECA posses significant increase in the sexual activity in male rats, which might be due to the presence of alkaloids, saponins and flavonoids found in MECA.

Preliminary investigation of the aphrodisiac potential of the methanol extract and fractions of Rhaphiostylis beninensis Planch ex Benth ( Icacinaceae ) root on male rats

Evidence is provided for the use of the root of Rb in ethno-medicine as an aphrodisiac in rats brought into oestrus by the sequential administration of ethinyl oestradiol orally 48 h before and progesterone subcutaneously, 6 h prior to mating.

Effect of the aqueous extract of the aerial parts of Monsonia angustifolia E. Mey. Ex A. Rich., on the sexual behaviour of male Wistar rats

The results validate the use of the plant by the indigenous people to increase libido and treat premature ejaculation and erectile dysfunction in males and produce pro-sexual stimulatory effects in male rats especially when administered at 300 mg/kg body weight.

Effect of aqueous extract of Bulbine natalensis (Baker) stem on the sexual behaviour of male rats.

The results are indicative of prosexual stimulatory potentials of Bulbine natalensis in male rats and may be used in the management of disorders of desire/libido, premature ejaculation and erectile dysfunction in males.

This study has refuted the claim that one of the rationales for consuming the seeds by the aged population of Nigeria is to enhance sexual invigoration in males and revealed that G. kola seeds did not have sex enhancing potential as claimed.
