Spectrum sharing is a method to solve the problem of frequency spectrum deficiency. This paper studies a novel AI based spectrum sharing and energy harvesting system in which the freshness of information (AoI) is guaranteed. The system includes a primary user with access rights to the spectrum and a secondary user. The secondary user is an energy harvesting sensor that intends to use the primary user’s spectrum opportunistically. The problem is formulated as partially observable Markov decision… Expand

  • 2019
This paper studies average AoI minimization in cognitive radio energy harvesting communications with a primary user with access rights to spectrum and a secondary user who can utilize the spectrum only when it is left idle by the primary user. Expand
Age of Information Analysis for Dynamic Spectrum Sharing
The monotonic and decomposable properties of the value function are characterized and used to show that the optimal update and relaying policy is threshold-based with respect to the AoI of the SU, and an asymptotically optimal algorithm is proposed. Expand
Energy Harvesting Cooperative Communication Systems
This paper addresses the problem of throughput maximization in an energy-harvesting two-hop amplify-and-forward relay network and obtains optimal policies for transmission power for two cases, and proposes a computationally simple power allocation scheme. Expand
Optimal Spectrum Access for Energy Harvesting Cognitive Radio Networks
Numerical results show that the proposed approach enables efficient usage of the harvested energy by exploiting the temporal correlation of the primary traffic. Expand
Cooperative Overlay Spectrum Access in Cognitive Radio Networks
This work has investigated the cooperative relaying technique in the context of the overlay spectrum access scheme aiming for allowing the PUs to transmit at a lower power and/or at a higher throughput, while at the same time enabling the CUs to communicate using the bandwidth released. Expand
Cognitive Radio Networks with Energy Harvesting
This paper considers a cognitive radio network with an energy-harvesting secondary transmitter to improve both energy efficiency and spectral efficiency and derives the optimal detection threshold that maximizes the expected total throughput subject to the energy causality constraint and the collision constraint. Multiband Spectrum Sensing and Resource Allocation for IoT in Cognitive 5G Networks
This paper proposes a cross-layer reconfiguration scheme (CLRS) for dynamic resource allocation in IoT applications with different quality-of-service (QoS) requirements including data rate, latency, reliability, economic price, and environment cost and efficiently allocate resources to satisfy QoS requirements through opportunistic spectrum access. Scheduling Algorithms for Minimizing Age of Information in Wireless Broadcast Networks with Random Arrivals
This paper considers a wireless broadcast network where a base-station is updating many users on random information arrivals under a transmission capacity constraint, and develops a structural MDP scheduling algorithm and an index scheduling algorithm, leveraging Markov decision process (MDP) techniques and the Whittle's methodology for restless bandits. Expand
Minimizing the Age of Information in broadcast wireless networks
This is the first work to provide a scheduling policy that optimizes AoI in a wireless network with unreliable channels and shows that a Greedy Policy, which transmits the packet with highest current age, is optimal for the case of symmetric networks. Expand
Age of information under energy replenishment constraints
An effective online heuristic, Balance Updating (BU), that achieves performance close to an omniscient (offline) policy is proposed and simulations indicate that they can significantly improve the age over greedy approaches. Expand
