Antitussive Activity of Medazonamide
The antitussive agents that show analgesic effect produce depression of respiration and possibly tolerance, while antihistaminic antitussives often lead to drowsiness, and the local anaesthetic ones usually have a high toxicity. Expand
Antitussive Activity of a New Local Anæsthetic Compound : Benzobutamine
The compound N (2-benzoyloxy-methyl-2-phenylbutyl)-N,N dimethylamine (benzobut-amine) was found to have the most interesting anti-tussive activity among a series of many other related compounds. Expand
3 Antitussive Drugs
This chapter discusses the drugs that have a direct and specific action on the cough reflex, including the opium alkaloids, their synthetic derivatives and substitutes, and newer non-narcotic compounds, and discusses whether to use patients suffering from pathological cough or individuals with an experimentally induced cough. Expand
The diethylaminoethoxyethyl ester of αα‐diethylphenylacetic acid (oxeladin) appears to possess similar antitussive activity to carbetapentane and to be slightly less active than codeine phosphate.Expand
Clinical pharmacology of antitussive agents
Some of the new synthetic compounds discussed in this review have demonstrated antitussive activity equivalent to that of codeine and are replacing the older narcotic preparations in the symptomatic management of cough. Expand
Preclinical and Clinical Investigation of Drugs II. Antitussive Drugs
A review of the literature on antitussives has revealed a series of observations which are not in conformity with the above simple thesis of an action of antitussive drugs on the central nervous system (CNS). Expand
Expectorants, Antitussives, and Related Agents
Expectorants enhance the projection of respiratory tract fluid and thus facilitate the mobilization and discharge of bronchial secretions. Stimulant expectorants increase respiratory tract secretionExpand
Animal models of cough
This review is to provide a comprehensive summary of animal models currently used in cough research and to address their advantages and disadvantages and to encourage cough researchers to call for precision is research by addressing the sex bias. Expand
