Except for oral administration, there was no grossly observed toxicity from carefully administered high doses of amygdalin in the experimental systems used. The compound in high doses was ineffective against the DMBA‐induced rat mammary carcinoma and the following transplanted experimental tumors: Sarcoma 180, plasma cell tumor LPC‐1, leukemia L1210, Mecca lymphosarcoma, Ridgway osteogenic sarcoma, sarcoma T241, mammary carcinoma E0771, Taper liver tumor, Ehrlich carcinoma (solid and ascites… Expand

Amygdalin (Laetrile) toxicity in rodents.
To the Editor.— Janardan D. Khandekar, MD, and Harlan Edelman in their article, "Studies of Amygdalin (Laetrile) Toxicity in Rodents" (242:169, 1979), reported lethality in rats from intraperitonealExpand
The case against laetrile. The fraudulent cancer remedy
TLDR
Laetrile (amygdalin) is not as non‐toxic as claimed, particularly when ingested orally, and especially when taken with plant material high in β‐glucosidase. Expand
Studies of amygdalin (laetrile) toxicity in rodents.
TLDR
Findings seriously question the use of amygdalin in clinical medicine under any circumstances and strongly suggested cyanide poisoning as the cause of death in Fischer 344 rats. Expand
Catalytic degradation of amygdalin by extracellular enzymes from Aspergillus niger
Abstract Amygdalin is a controversial anti-tumor natural product that has been used as an alternative cancer drug for many years. The anti-tumor mechanism and metabolism of amygdalin have been theExpand

Abstract Amygdalin is a naturally occurring product and was considered to be a natural cancer cure; however, its anticancer effects remain highly controversial. Furthermore, the bioactivity ofExpand
Amygdalin, quackery or cure?
TLDR
No convincing evidence showing that amygdalin induces rapid, distinct tumor regression in cancer patients, particularly in those with late-stage disease, is apparent, however, there is also no evidence that purified Amygdalin, administered in "therapeutic" dosage, causes toxicity. Expand
A beta-glucosidase in feline kidney that hydrolyzes amygdalin (laetrile).
TLDR
A β-glucosidase has been demonstrated in cat, rat, and rabbit kidney tissue that catalyzes the hydrolytic cleavage of the terminal glucose residue of amygdalin ( Laetrile-β-gentiobioside). Expand
Amygdalin: Nutzen oder Risiko?
TLDR
Expand
Special report on Laetrile: the NCI Laetrile Review. Results of the National Cancer Institute's retrospective Laetrile analysis.
TLDR
A retrospective analysis of Laetrile treatment undertook in response to widespread public interest allowed no definite conclusions supporting the anti-cancer activity of Laetsrile. Expand

Chemotherapy studies in an animal tumor spectrum. I. Biologic characteristics of the tumors.
TLDR
A spectrum of 8 tumors has been selected chiefly from 35 transplantable animal tumors used previously for chemotherapeutic studies at Sloan-Kettering Institute based on the sensitivity of the tumors to groups of standard antitumor drugs and on the biologic characteristics of these tumors. Expand

Effects of 17α-Thioestradiol, 2 Estradiol Analogs, and 2 Androgens on 7, 12-Dimethylbenz[a]anthracene-induced Rat Mammary Tumors
TLDR
A thiol analog of estradiol was tested for antitumor activity in the 7, 12-dimenthylbenz( a )anthracene-induced mammary tumor-rat experimental chemotherapy system and the largest proportion of complete remissions of all tumors in each rat was produced by 17β-estradiol. Expand
