The antitumor ribonucleoside analogues 1-(3-C-ethynyl-β-d-ribo-pentofuranosyl)cytosine (ECyd) and 1-(3-C-ethynyl-β-d-ribo-pentofuranosyl)uracil (EUrd), first synthesized in 1995, have strong antitumor activity against human cancer xenografts without severe side effects.
