The antimutagenic properties of whole fresh-water blue-green algaeAphanisomenon flos-aquae, marketed under the commercial name “Alpha Sun” were tested using the Ames test. Simultaneous addition of both algae and Nitrovin (a mutagen) to the test medium did not reduce the mutagenic activity. On the other hand, addition of freeze-dried blue-green algae to the test medium 2–24 h before the application of mutagen reduced its mutagenic activity.
Consequences of AphanizomenonFlos-aquae(AFA) extract (StemtechTM) on metabolic profile of patients with type 2 diabetes
TLDR
StemtechTM intervention brought in positive consequence on blood glucose levels in Iranian patients with type 2 diabetes, consequently suggests the Stemtech TM as a functional food for the management of diabetes.
Multiplex PCR for the detection of toxigenic cyanobacteria in dietary supplements produced for human consumption
TLDR
A multiplex polymerase chain reaction (PCR) technique that can be used to identify microcystin contamination in dietary supplements produced for human consumption and was found to be useful for detecting the presence of toxigenic Microcystis in all dietary supplementsproduced from the nontoxic cyanobacterium Aphanizomenon flos-aquae.
Histological and histochemical changes in the liver of gamma-irradiated rats and the possible protective role of Aphanizomenon flos-aquae (AFA)
Exposure to ionizing radiation represents a genuine increasing threat to mankind and our environment. Aphanizomenon flos-aquae (AFA) is a blue-green microalgal species that has antioxidant
WP£YW BAKTERII Z RODZAJU ARTHROSPIRA NA FUNKCJONOWANIE UK£ADU IMMUNOLOGICZNEGO
TLDR
It has been demonstrated that ispirulinai (Arthrospira-based dietary supplements) as well as water extracts of ArthroSpira activate immune system, mainly by modulation of cytokine levels, and the effect of spirulina on tumor development.
Subacute toxicity study in Wistar rats fed with StemEnhanceTM, an extract from Aphanizomenon flos-aquae.
TLDR
The results show that StemEnhance at doses ∼20 times the maximum label-recommended daily dose did not produce adverse effects in Wistar rats after subacute treatment.
