A hydro-distilled oil of Satureja hortensis L. was investigated for its antimicrobial activity against a panel of 11 bacterial and three fungal strains. The antimicrobial activity was determined using the disk-diffusion and broth microdilution methods. The essential oil of S. hortensis L. showed significant activity against a wide spectrum of Gram (-) bacteria (MIC/MBC=0.025-0.78/0.05-0.78 μl/ml) and Gram (+) bacteria (MIC/MBC=0.05-0.39/0.05-0.78 μl/ml), as well as against fungal strains (MIC… Expand

Influence of Growth Phase on the Essential Oil Composition and Antimicrobial Activities of Satureja hortensis
TLDR
The variations in quantity and quality of essential oils from the aerial parts of cultivated Satureja hortensis were determined at different stages of harvesting and the EOs exhibited strong antibacterial activities against the tested bacteria. Expand
The in vitro cytotoxicity, antioxidant and antibacterial potential of Satureja hortensis L. essential oil cultivated in Egypt.
TLDR
This is the first study on antioxidant, antimicrobial and cytotoxicity of Egyptian S. hortensis and SEO showed toxicity on normal cells (WI-38, THLE2, and phoenx-eco) and consequently, it is worthwhile for extensive toxicity studies in normal cells and animal models. Expand
The Potential of Use Basil and Rosemary Essential Oils as Effective Antibacterial Agents
TLDR
Results showed that both tested essential oils are active against all of the clinical strains from Escherichia coli including extended-spectrum β-lactamase positive bacteria, but basil oil possesses a higher ability to inhibit growth. Expand
In vitro antibacterial activity and phytochemical analysis of some medicinal plants
TLDR
The notion that plant essential oils composition or total extract may have a role as pharmaceuticals and preservatives effects as safely and effective drugs with low resistance against microorganisms supported the notion that these essential oils could be used for management of these pathogens as a potential source of sustainable eco-friendly botanical bactericides. Expand
