The antimanic effect of zotepine was investigated in 16 patients with manic-depressive psychosis or manic schizoaffective psychosis. Zotepine markedly improved manic symptoms in 75% and afforded at least slight improvement in all patients studied. However, in 50%, zotepine caused conversion from mania to depression. The most frequent side effects were dysarthria in 50%, parkinsonian symptoms in 33%, dry mouth in 28%, and sleepiness in 28%. EEG abnormalities were noted in 22% of patients. The…
Zotepine loading in acute and severely manic patients: a pilot study
TLDR
This open pilot study suggests that zotepine with a median daily dosage of 250 mg/day is effective with a rapid therapeutic effect in severely manic patients.
Zotepine loading in acute and severely manic patients: a pilot study.
Objectives:  In clinical practice patients with severe mania (agitation, insomnia and aggressive behaviour) still receive effective, but often not well tolerated typical antipsychotics. The aim of
Protective effect of the antipsychotic drug zotepine on dizocilpine-induced neuropathological changes in rat retrosplenial cortex.
TLDR
The present study suggests that the neuroprotective effects of zotepine- on dizocilpine-induced neurotoxicity are equipotent to those of clozapine.
Zotepine for Behavioural and Psychological Symptoms in Dementia
TLDR
Zotepine appears to be well tolerated and effective in treating BPSD, consistent with the performance of other atypical antipsychotic drugs in this condition.
Zotepine for Behavioural and Psychological Symptoms in Dementia: An Open-Label Study
TLDR
Zotepine appears to be well tolerated and effective in treating BPSD, consistent with the performance of other atypical antipsychotic drugs in this condition.
Safety evaluation of zotepine for the treatment of schizophrenia
TLDR
Compared to typical compounds zotepine induces less extrapyramidal side effects; however, in terms of comparing zotEPine's safety with other atypical antipsychotics more studies are needed to draw final conclusions.
A single‐blind, comparative study of zotepine versus haloperidol in combination with a mood stabilizer for patients with moderate‐to‐severe mania
TLDR
This study was conducted to investigate the efficacy and tolerability of zotepine compared to haloperidol in combination with a mood stabilizer (lithium or valproate) for treatment of acute mania.
Acute and Prophylactic Properties of Carbamazepine in Bipolar Affective Disorders
TLDR
Several drugs have been investigated as alternatives to lithium for acute and prophylactic treatment of bipolar disorders, including anticonvulsants and antipsychotics.
Interaction of zotepine and chlorprothixene with URAT1-mediated urate transport
Zotepine and chlorprothixene are antipsychotic drugs, and they have a broad therapeutic effect in p a t i e n t s w i t h s c h i z o p h r e n i a . Z o t e p i n e a n d chlorprothixene have been
Plasma Ratios of Tryptophan and Tyrosine to Other Large Neutral Amino Acids in Manic‐Depressive Patients
TLDR
The results suggest that, in manic‐depressive illness, there might be abnormalities in the metabolism of neutral amino acids, mainly of TRP and TYR, and that the plasma TRPand TYR ratios might be important indicators for determining the efflcacy of some drugs.
