This study is focused on the in vitro evaluation of the hemolysis inhibitory activity of aqueous extracts of six plants used in the traditional treatment of sickle cell disease in Benin: Morinda lucida, Uvaria chamae, Lonchocarpus cyanescens, Croton zambesicus, Raphiostylis beninensis and Xylopia aethiopica. AS and SS red blood cells are subjected to hyposmotic impact with decreasing concentrations of NaCl solution. All the aqueous extracts of the six plants showed a better contribution in… Expand

The Anticandidal and Toxicity Properties of Lampranthus francisci
TLDR
L. francisci has some fungicidal activity and boosts the growth of immune cells, thus validating its use in ethnomedicine and potential leads for the isolation of immune stimulatory compounds. Expand
Haematological and Genotoxicity Evaluations of Phytochemical Compounds from n-Hexane Extract of Uvaria chamae Stem on Selected Organs in Mice
TLDR
The present study showed that the phytochemicals present in the n-Hexane extract of Uvaria chamae stems may play protective role in the genomic DNA of liver and testis tissues and also may induce hematological changes which may enhance the immune system. Expand
Whole plant screenings for flavonoids and tannins contents in castor plant (Ricinus communis L.) and evaluation of their biological activities.
TLDR
Low inhibitory effects on the population proliferation of Streptococcus aureus and Krebsellia halize were observed at increasing concentrations of flavonoids and tannins extracts, which implies that Castor plant possesses essential phytochemicals, which could be exploited for medicinal/pharmaceutical applications. Expand
Phytochemicals, Antihemolytic, Anti-inflammatory, Antioxidant, and Antibacterial Activities from Thymus Algeriensis
ABSTRACT The chemical composition and anti-inflammatory, antihemolytic, antioxidant, and antibacterial activities of solvent extracts of Thymus algeriensis in petroleum ether, chloroform, andExpand
Morinda lucida Benth (Rubiaceae): A review of its ethnomedicine, phytochemistry and pharmacology.
TLDR
Documented evidence suggests that M. lucida remains a rich source of extracts and chemical compounds with diverse bioactivities that are of therapeutic benefit to man and this justifies its traditional uses for the primary healthcare needs of indigenous populations across tropical Africa. Expand
Characterization of the Volatile Components and Antimicrobial Properties of the Ethanol Leaf Extract of Uvaria chamae Grown in Eastern Nigeria
The characterization of the ethanol leaf extract of Uvaria chamae was carried out with the aim of identifying and determining the chemical compounds present in the extract. Initial phytochemicalExpand
