Antigen challenge in sensitized guinea pig esophagus in vitro induces mast cell degranulation and histamine release. This study tests the hypothesis that antigen inhalation in vivo induces infiltration of the esophageal epithelium by mast cells and eosinophils via a histamine pathway.
