Intestinal absorption of antigenic (intact) and degraded β-lactoglobulin and horseradish peroxidase was studied in rabbits experimentally infected at weaning with the rabbit-specific Escherichia coli strain RDEC-1 (015:NM). Trans epithelial fluxes of both proteins were measured at four stages after infection: early, peak, late, and recovery, on segments of ileum and Peyer's patches mounted in Ussing chambers.
