Dracocephalum kotschyi Boiss, a member of Labiatae family, is a native plant to Iran, which has been reported to have immunomodulatory, antihyperlipidemic and antispasmodic activities. The objective of this research was to study the antispasmodic and antidiarrhoeal activities of hydroalcoholic and hexane extracts of D. kotschyi in mice. Furthermore, the antidiarrhoeal and antispasmodic effect of apigenin, a flavonoid constituent of D. kotschyi, was also studied. Hydroalcoholic and hexane…

Inhibitory effect of hydroalcoholic and flavonoids extracts of Dracocephalum kotschyi, and its components luteolin, apigenin and apigenin-4’-galactoside on intestinal transit in mice
TLDR
Both the hydroalcoholic and flavonoids extracts of D. kotschyi have antispasmodic properties in vivo, and biochemical assessment of flavonoid content of the extracts showed that ethyl-acetate fraction contained higher quantity of Flavonoids.
Comparison of antispasmodic effect of hydroalcoholic extract of Dracocephalum kotschyi Boiss. in rat uterus and ileum
TLDR
It was concluded that D. kotschyi extract possesses antispasmodic activities on both smooth muscle of ileum and uterus and may contain components that might be useful lead compounds for prevention of uterus spasm.
Antispasmodic activity of apigenin and luteolin, two components of Dracocephalum kotschyi extract, on rat ileum contractions
Introduction: Aerial parts of Dracocephalum kotschyi have been used as antispasmodic agents in Iranian traditional medicine. Recent pharmacological studies confirmed antispasmodic activity of D.
Anti-inflammatory effect of apigenin and hydroalcoholic extract of Dracocephalum kotschyi on acetic acid-induced colitis in rats
TLDR
Anti-inflammatory potential of D. kotschyi extract and apigenin in experimentally induced colitis is shown and significantly lower score values of macroscopic and microscopic characters when compared with the vehicle-treated negative control group.
Antidiarrheal action of Zataria multiflora hydroalcoholic and hexane extracts in mice
TLDR
The obtained results have established a pharmacological evidence for the folkloric use of the Z. multiflora as an antidiarrhoeal and spasmodic agent.
Antispasmodic effect of hydroalcoholic and flavonoids extracts of Dracocephalum kotschyi on rabbit bladder
TLDR
This study clearly demonstrated that D. kotschyi extracts were able to prevent contractions induced by ACh, KCl or EFS in isolated rabbit bladder, which means that people consuming this medicinal plant may face urinary retention which could be a problem for patients with prostate hypertrophy.
Study of antispasmodic action of Lavandula angustifolia Mill hydroalcoholic extract on rat ileum
TLDR
L. angustifolia extract at microgram concentration shows an inhibitory effect on rat ileum smooth muscle, and isolation and identification of active ingredients are recommended.
Bronchodilator effect of apigenin and luteolin, two components of Dracocephalum kotschyi on isolated rabbit trachea
TLDR
This study demonstrated that D. kotschyi extract is a relaxant of tracheal smooth muscle and could be due to its flavonoids component such as apigenin and luteolin.

Antispasmodic effect of Dracocephalum kotschyi hydroalcoholic extract on rat ileum contraction
TLDR
It was concluded that D. kotschyi extract possessed potent antispasmodic activity, and identification of the active component(s) is recommended in order to find the best lead compound for drug development.
Comparison of antispasmodic effects of Dracocephalum kotschyi essential oil, limonene and α-terpineol
TLDR
It was concluded that D. kotschyi essential oil has inhibitory effect on ileum contractions while α-terpineol has weak antispasmodic activity.
Antidiarrheal activities of isovanillin, iso-acetovanillon and Pycnocycla spinosa Decne ex.Boiss extract in mice
TLDR
This study shows that antidiarrheal effect of P. spinosa extract is at least partially due to presence of two active compounds isovanillin and iso-acetovanillon.
Antinociceptive effects of the essential oil of Dracocephalum kotschyi in the mouse writhing test.
TLDR
It is confirmed that antinociceptive properties of D. kotschyi are comparable to those of hyoscine and indomethacin used, which is necessary to find out a place for it in antispasmodic therapies in human.
Apigenin, a component of Matricaria recutita flowers, is a central benzodiazepine receptors-ligand with anxiolytic effects.
TLDR
It is demonstrated that apigenin is a ligand for the central benzodiazepine receptors exerting anxiolytic and slight sedative effects but not being anticonvulsant or myorelaxant.
On the mechanism of diarrhea due to castor oil.
TLDR
The literature on this subject presents conflicting results, and Yamamoto and Nakaya have claimed that the small intestine alone is stimulated, while researchers have said that contrary to the above data ricinoleic acid, applied to the intestinal serosa by Magnus' method in vitro, depresses the movement of thesmall intestine.
