The activity of the SERCA2a Ca2+ pump in the sarcoplasmic reticulum (SR) of cardiac muscle is inhibited by phospholamban. When phospholamban is phosphorylated by cyclic-AMP-dependent protein kinase (PKA) this inhibition is relieved.
