MicroRNAs (miRNAs or mirs) are small, non-coding RNAs that bind specific mRNAs and decrease their translation or increase their degradation. miRNAs may modulate the formation and maintenance of tumors by regulating oncogene and tumor suppressor expression. For example, overexpression of a subset of miRNAs has been inversely correlated with certain tumor phenotypes, suggesting a role in tumor suppression. Pairs of oncogenes and the corresponding miRNAs that attenuate their expression have been…

Regulation of MicroRNAs by Natural Compounds: Implications for Cancer Therapy. Springer Netherlands
TLDR
Deep understanding on the mechanisms of miRNA regulation by natural compounds would offer promising hopes to overcome anticancer drug resistance.
MiR-1208 Increases the Sensitivity to Cisplatin by Targeting TBCK in Renal Cancer Cells
TLDR
Findings suggest that miR-1208 acts as a tumor suppressor and targets TBCK directly, thus possessing great potential for use in renal cancer therapy.
MicroRNAs as New Players in the Genomic Galaxy and Disease Puzzles
TLDR
The role of miRNAs in human disease, methodology for evaluating miRNA gene expression, and the potential role ofmiRNAs as therapeutic agents and targets for the treatment of disease are described.
Effect of miR-140-5p on the regulation of proliferation and apoptosis in NSCLC and its underlying mechanism.
Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is the most common type of lung cancer accounting for ~80% of lung cancer cases. According to novel research, numerous microRNAs (miRs) have been suggested to
MicroRNA-214 Promotes Apoptosis in Canine Hemangiosarcoma by Targeting the COP1-p53 Axis
TLDR
It is reported that miR-214 was significantly down-regulated in the cell lines used and in clinical samples of canine hemangiosarcoma and functioned as a tumor suppressor by inducing apoptosis through recovering the function of p53.
RNAi-based Approaches to the Treatment of Brain Tumors
TLDR
Despite demonstration of excellent potential as an anti-cancer therapy at the bench, the current inability to deliver therapeutically significant levels of RNAi into the diseased tissue remains a primary hurdle that needs to be overcome for widespread utility at the bedside.
Development of synthetic microRNA-214 showing enhanced cytotoxicity and RNase resistance for treatment of canine hemangiosarcoma.
MicroRNA-214 (miR-214), a pivotal tumour-suppressive miRNA, is downregulated in canine hemangiosarcoma (HSA) cells. Although these tumour-suppressive miRNAs are potential therapeutic agents, their
Microvesicle-delivery miR-150 promotes tumorigenesis by up-regulating VEGF, and the neutralization of miR-150 attenuate tumor development
TLDR
The therapeutic potential of neutralizing miR-150 to treat cancer is proposed and a novel, natural, microvesicle-based method for the transfer of nucleic acids is demonstrated.
RNA Interference-Based Therapies Against Brain Tumors: Potential Clinical Strategies
TLDR
This chapter examines the glioma-specific cellular strategies that are presented for targeting via both siRNA and miRNA, and current progress in brain tumor-directed targeting of therapeutic amounts of RNAi, including those developed for traversing the blood–brain barrier.
Decrease of Let-7f in Low-Dose Metronomic Paclitaxel Chemotherapy Contributed to Upregulation of Thrombospondin-1 in Breast Cancer
TLDR
Let-7f inhibition contributed to the upregulation of TSP-1 in paclitaxel LDM therapy, independently of proliferation, cell cycle arrest and apoptosis of breast cancer, and is indicated as a potential therapeutic target for breast tumor.

MicroRNA gene expression deregulation in human breast cancer.
TLDR
It is shown that, compared with normal breast tissue, miRNAs are also aberrantly expressed in human breast cancer, and the overall miRNA expression could clearly separate normal versus cancer tissues, with the most significantly deregulated mi RNAs being mir-125b, mir-145, mir -21, and mir-155.
Impaired microRNA processing enhances cellular transformation and tumorigenesis
TLDR
It is shown that global repression of miRNA maturation promotes cellular transformation and tumorigenesis, and abrogation of global miRNA processing promotes tumorigenisation.

TLDR
The results indicate that miRNAs are extensively involved in cancer pathogenesis of solid tumors and support their function as either dominant or recessive cancer genes.
A genetic screen implicates miRNA-372 and miRNA-373 as oncogenes in testicular germ cell tumors.
TLDR
It is provided evidence that these miRNAs are potential novel oncogenes participating in the development of human testicular germ cell tumors by numbing the p53 pathway, thus allowing tumorigenic growth in the presence of wild-type p53.
c-Myc-regulated microRNAs modulate E2F1 expression
TLDR
A mechanism through which c-Myc simultaneously activates E2F1 transcription and limits its translation, allowing a tightly controlled proliferative signal is revealed.
Augmentation of tumor angiogenesis by a Myc-activated microRNA cluster
TLDR
Findings establish a role for microRNAs in non–cell-autonomous Myc-induced tumor phenotypes and suggest that Ras-only cells with a miR-17-92–encoding retrovirus reduced Tsp1 and CTGF levels and formed larger, better-perfused tumors.

A microRNA polycistron as a potential human oncogene
TLDR
It is found that the levels of the primary or mature microRNAs derived from the mir-17–92 locus are often substantially increased in human B-cell lymphomas, and the cluster is implicate as a potential human oncogene.
MicroRNA expression profiles classify human cancers
TLDR
A new, bead-based flow cytometric miRNA expression profiling method is used to present a systematic expression analysis of 217 mammalian miRNAs from 334 samples, including multiple human cancers, and finds the miRNA profiles are surprisingly informative, reflecting the developmental lineage and differentiation state of the tumours.
