The objective of the present study was to investigate the anti-inflammatory properties of blueberry polyphenols on MC3T3-E1 pre-osteoblasts under inflammatory condition. Cells were treated with blueberry polyphenols at concentrations of 0, 10, 100 µg/ml. After 24 h incubation, cells were stimulated by pro-inflammatory cytokines, TNF-a (10 ng/ml), IL-1 (10 ng/ml) alone or in combination for 24 h and 48 h. Cells were harvested and supernatants were collected for assessing NO production using… Expand

Anthocyanins and anthocyanin-rich food as antioxidants in bone pathology
TLDR
Animal and cell studies suggest that Anthocyanins and anthocyanin-rich foods can inhibit osteoclast activity and differentiation as well as promote osteoblast function, likely related to the antioxidant and antiinflammatory properties of anthocianins. Expand
Berries, their micronutrients and bone health
TLDR
Berry-enriched foods represent a relevant opportunity in the design of nutritional strategies targeting bone alteration and are addressed in a review of emerging interest in berries for bone health. Expand
The role of polyphenols on bone metabolism in osteoporosis
TLDR
This review reports about some important bioactive polyphenol sources and describes their action against osteoporosis based on in vitro and in vivo studies. Expand

Soybean isoflavones inhibit tumor necrosis factor-alpha-induced apoptosis and the production of interleukin-6 and prostaglandin E2 in osteoblastic cells.
TLDR
The findings of this study suggest that soybean isoflavones may promote the function of osteoblastic cells and play an important role in bone remodeling. Expand

TLDR
No produced in response to proinflammatory cytokines participates in the modulation of ALP activity via the activation of COX pathway, suggesting that NO played an important role in the regulation of osteoblastic functions under physiologic as well as pathologic conditions. Expand
Phenolic compounds from blueberries can inhibit colon cancer cell proliferation and induce apoptosis.
TLDR
Findings suggest that blueberry intake may reduce colon cancer risk and the effective dosage levels are close to the reported range of anthocyanin concentrations in rat plasma. Expand
Role of Sandhika: A Polyherbal Formulation on MC3T3-E1 Osteoblast-like Cells
TLDR
Significant enhancement in calcium nodule formation was shown in the dose dependent manner up to 2 mg/ml, followed by gradual decrease at higher concentrations, indicating a potential anabolic effect of this polyherbal formulation on osteoblast-like cells under inflammatory conditions induced by LPS. Expand
Human interleukin-1-induced murine osteoclastogenesis is dependent on RANKL, but independent of TNF-alpha.
TLDR
Results show that in the absence of stromal cells, IL-1 exacerbates osteoclastogenesis by cooperating with RANKL and M-CSF, while TNF-alpha is not involved in this IL- 1-stimulated osteoc last differentiation pathway. Expand
Nitric oxide donor alleviates ovariectomy-induced bone loss.
TLDR
The results suggest that NO counteracts the bone loss associated with OVX, suggesting that the protective effect of estrogens against bone loss may be mediated through NO. Expand
Blueberry prevents bone loss in ovariectomized rat model of postmenopausal osteoporosis.
TLDR
It is indicated that blueberry can prevent bone loss as seen by the increases in BMD and favorable changes in biomarkers of bone metabolism. Expand
Tumor necrosis factor-α cooperates with receptor activator of nuclear factor κB ligand in generation of osteoclasts in stromal cell-depleted rat bone marrow cell culture
TLDR
It is demonstrated that mononuclear preosteoclast-like cells (POCs) were formed in the presence of conditioned medium of osteoblastic cells in a rat bone marrow culture depleted of stromal cells, suggesting that cooperation of TNF-α and RANKL is important for osteoclastogenesis. Expand
Dietary blueberry attenuates whole-body insulin resistance in high fat-fed mice by reducing adipocyte death and its inflammatory sequelae.
TLDR
It is suggested that cytoprotective and antiinflammatory actions of dietary BB can provide metabolic benefits to combat obesity-associated pathology. Expand
Tumor necrosis factor-alpha cooperates with receptor activator of nuclear factor kappaB ligand in generation of osteoclasts in stromal cell-depleted rat bone marrow cell culture.
TLDR
It is demonstrated that mononuclear preosteoclast-like cells (POCs) were formed in the presence of conditioned medium of osteoblastic cells in a rat bone marrow culture depleted of stromal cells, and cooperation of TNF-alpha and RANKL is important for osteoclastogenesis. Expand
