RATIONALE The diabetes mellitus drug metformin is under investigation in cardiovascular disease, but the molecular mechanisms underlying possible benefits are poorly understood. OBJECTIVE Here, we have studied anti-inflammatory effects of the drug and their relationship to antihyperglycemic properties.
