Arsenic (As) contamination in groundwater is of increasing health concern in West Bengal, India. Arsenic has been associated with various human cancers, but the precise mechanism of its co-carcinogenic action is not clearly elucidated. Oxidative stress and defective repair mechanisms may promote accumulation of mutations and may be a stepping stone for carcinogenesis.
