The effects of isotocin (IT) and vasotocin (VT), which are fish analogues of mammalian oxytocin and vasopressin respectively, were examined in the isolated upper esophageal sphincter (UES) muscle. IT relaxed and VT constricted the UES muscle in a concentration-dependent manner.
