The actions of the alpha 2-antagonist yohimbine and methylxanthines aminophylline and caffeine were evaluated in reversing ataxia, increase in landing foot splay (LFS), produced by the alpha 2-agonist medetomidine in male rats. Medetomidine at 0.1 and 0.15 mg/kg, i.p. increased LFS by 42.9 and 69.6%, respectively. The peripherally acting alpha 2-agonist ST91 (0.125 to 0.5 mg/kg, i.p.) did not significantly affect the LFS. Intraperitoneal injection of yohimbine at 0.5 and 1 mg/kg, aminophylline… Expand
Medetomidine sedation in sheep.
The results suggested that medetomidine could be a useful sedative analgesic in sheep and produced good analgesia and marked muscle relaxation in the recumbent animals. Expand
Neurobehavioral effects of tetramisole in mice.
Stereotyped behavior and changes in the negative geotaxis and landing foot splay are reported for the first time in mice treated with tetramisole. Expand
Intraperitoneal anaesthesia with propofol, medetomidine and fentanyl in mice
It is concluded that a combination of 75/1/0.2 mg/kg of propofol, medetomidine and fentanyl, respectively, is a safe, easy and reversible technique for i.p. anaesthesia in mice, providing a surgical window of 15 min and restraint for 30 min with a fast recovery. Expand
Developmental and behavioral effects of medetomidine following in ovo injection in chicks.
The data suggest that medetomidine could be a behavioral teratogen in chicks following in ovo exposure and dosage-dependently decreased the number of viable chick embryos starting on day 10 of the incubation. Expand
Ultrasonic vocalization production of preweanling rats: effects of central and peripheral administration of alpha2-adrenoceptor agonists.
The present results are consistent with the hypothesis that centrally located alpha2-adrenoceptors are a component of a neural system that mediates ultrasonic vocalization production. Expand
