  • Rutherford discovered the electrostatic nuclear scattering formula. Unfortunately, there was a discrepancy for kinetic energies above the so-called Rutherford singularity. Even after the discovery of the proton and neutron magnetic moments, the physical nature of the anomalous Rutherford scattering is still assumed to be due to a hypothetical strong force.
