We consider the Adler-Bardeen anomaly of the U(1) axial current in abelian and non-abelian gauge theories and present its algebraic characterization as well as an explicit evaluation proving regularization scheme independence of the anomaly. By extending the gauge coupling to an external space-time dependent field we get a unique definition for the quantum corrections of the topological term. It also implies a simple proof of the non-renormalization theorem of the Adler-Bardeen anomaly. We…

Adler-Bardeen theorem and cancellation of gauge anomalies to all orders in nonrenormalizable theories

We prove the Adler-Bardeen theorem in a large class of general gauge theories, including nonrenormalizable ones. We assume that the gauge symmetries are general covariance, local Lorentz symmetry and

Space-time dependent couplings in Script N = 1 SUSY gauge theories: anomalies and central functions

We consider = 1 supersymmetric gauge theories in which the couplings are allowed to be space-time dependent functions. Both the gauge and the superpotential couplings become chiral superfields. As

Background field method and the cohomology of renormalization

Using the background field method and the Batalin-Vilkovisky formalism, we prove a key theorem on the cohomology of perturbatively local functionals of arbitrary ghost numbers, in renormalizable and

We study some properties of the canonical transformations in classical mechanics and quantum field theory and give a number of practical formulas concerning their generating functions. First, we give

Supersymmetric space-time symmetry breaking sources

We construct new families of deformed supersymmetric field theories which break space-time symmetries but preserve half of the original supersymmetry. We do this by writing deformations as couplings

Ward identities and gauge independence in general chiral gauge theories

Using the Batalin-Vilkovisky formalism, we study the Ward identities and the equations of gauge dependence in potentially anomalous general gauge theories, renormalizable or not. A crucial new term,
