Abstract The suitability of the quaternary QAE-Sephadex A-25 exchanger in anion exchange studies of metal chloride complexes has been tested by determining the distributions of Zn(II) and Hg(II) between the exchanger and aqueous HCl and LiCl, as well as the distribution of I− from aqueous LiCl. The dependence of the distribution coefficients of zinc and mercury on the acid concentration in the aqueous phase, at constant chloride concentration [HCl] + [LiCl] = 8·0, was also investigated.
