Though studied for decades in relation to mood disorders, anhedonia has only more recently become widely discussed in relation to schizophrenia, despite being described in the earliest writings describing the phenomenon. In addition to being a self-evident detriment to quality of life, anhedonia is a predictor of a number of negative outcomes, including poor quality of life, social dysfunction and psychosis vulnerability.
