Abstract In sections 2 and 3 we give the angular distribution of neutrons due to an isotropic point source in an infinite medium, both with and without capture. The remainder of the paper contains the derivation of certain families of the spherically symmetrical eigensolutions and a preliminary discussion of their properties. It is shown, in particular, that the point source solution cannot be represented as a superposition of eigensolutions.
