In the glomerulus, angiotensin II (Ang II) reduces the ultrafiltration coefficient and enhances the filtration of macromolecules. During glomerular injury, inhibition of the renin-angiotensin system by angiotensin-converting-enzyme inhibitors reduces proteinuria and retards the progression to end-stage renal insufficiency.
