Since the first description of angiotensin converting enzyme inhibition by teprotide, a peptide found in the snake venom of Bothrops jaracara, the pharmacology of angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors has focused on the ability of these compounds to antagonize the activation of the renin angiotensin system.
