1. The system of lateral canals in the head region of Tilapia is composed of a supraorbital canal, a temporal canal, a mandibulo-preopercular canal and an infraorbital canal. All these osseous canals communicate with one another; they are transversally connected by a medially directed commissure between the supraoribital canals, above the orbitae.
