INTRODUCTION Among tetravalent lead compounds having the character of lead(IV) acids, lead tetrahalides of the type PbX4 (X = halogen), lead(IV) sulphate and Iead tetraacetate are currently known. For oxidation purposes particularly in the case of organic compounds, lead tetraacetate has found the widest use; it has replaced oxidations with, for example, lead dioxide not only in preparative reactions but especially in the case of the analytical applications of such processes.
