We propose an analytical method to describe a matter density profile near a galaxy center. The description is based on the study of the distribution function of particles over possible trajectories. We establish a relation between the central slope of density profile and the near-origin behavior of the angular momentum distribution function. We consider both a spherically symmetric (on average) matter distribution as well as deviations from it. If the density profile forms in a background of…

A solution to the problems of cusps and rotation curves in dark matter halos in the cosmological standard model

We discuss various aspects of the inner structure formation in virialized dark matter (DM) halos that form as primordial density inhomogeneities evolve in the cosmological standard model. The main

A Universal Density Profile from Hierarchical Clustering

We use high-resolution N-body simulations to study the equilibrium density profiles of dark matter halos in hierarchically clustering universes. We find that all such profiles have the same shape,

The cores of dwarf galaxy haloes

We use N-body simulations to examine the effects of mass outflows on the density profiles of cold dark matter (CDM) halos surrounding dwarf galaxies. In particular, we investigate the consequences of

The Equilibrium Structure of Cosmological Halos: From Dwarf Galaxies to X-ray Clusters

A new model for the postcollapse equilibrium structure of virialized objects which condense out of the cosmological background universe is described and compared with observations and simulations of

The Structure of cold dark matter halos

High resolution N-body simulations show that the density profiles of dark matter halos formed in the standard CDM cosmogony can be fit accurately by scaling a simple “universal” profile. Regardless

The Persistence of Universal Halo Profiles

We have performed simple simulations which suggest that the phase-space structure of halos identified in cosmological calculations is invariant under the dynamics induced by sinking substructure

DARK HALOS AND ELLIPTICAL GALAXIES AS MARGINALLY STABLE DYNAMICAL SYSTEMS

The origin of equilibrium gravitational configurations is sought in terms of the stability of their trajectories, as described by the curvature of their Lagrangian configuration manifold of particle

The Structure of Dark Matter Halos in Dwarf Galaxies

Recent observations indicate that dark matter halos have flat central density profiles. Cosmological simulations with nonbaryonic dark matter, however, predict self-similar halos with central density

A model for the post-collapse equilibrium of cosmological structure: truncated isothermal spheres from top-hat density perturbations

ABSTRA C T The post-collapse structure of objects that form by gravitational condensation out of the expanding cosmological background universe is a key element in the theory of galaxy formation.

The Equilibrium Structure of CDM Halos

Dark-matter (DM) halos are the scaffolding around which galaxies and clusters are built. They form when the gravitational instability of primordial density fluctuations causes regions which are
