It has been shown that it is possible to extend the validity of the Townsend breakdown criterion for evaluating the breakdown voltages in the complete pd range in which Paschen curves are available. Evaluation of the breakdown voltages for air (pd=0.0133 to 1400 kPa · cm), N2(pd=0.0313 to 1400 kPa · cm) and SF6 (pd=0.3000 to 1200 kPa · cm) has been done and in most cases the computed values are accurate to ±3% of the measured values. The computations show that it is also possible to estimate…

Experimental verification of modified Paschen’s law in DC glow discharge argon plasma
Breakdown voltage of a gas is the required voltage to start a discharge or electric arc through the gas. Paschen’s law describes the characteristics of gas breakdown voltage between two electrodes.
High Voltage Phenomena in Rarefied Air: A DIY Approach
The present experiment aims to recreate and analyze known behavior of high-voltage gaps in a near vacuum with low-cost equipment. It has been previously observed that the application of high voltages
Breakdown strength of air, SF6 and a mixture of air plus SF6 containing a small amount of SF6
The breakdown strengths of dry air, sulphur-hexafluoride (SF 6 ) and a mixture of dry air plus SF 6 containing 1% of SF 6 were studied. For this purpose, 50-Hz AC and lightning impulse breakdown
