There are 980 Million wireless subscriber with 12 Telecom Service provider (TSPs) in India as on Sept 2015. Each TSP has their own Equipment Identity Register (EIR) to register International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) number of mobile handset which is used for tracking of devices. In traditional telecom infrastructure this EIR is separate for each TSP and updated regularly.
