Abstract The investigation of lines in the plutonium spectrum in the region between 6000 and 8000 A and their suitability for isotopic analysis was undertaken with the aid of the scanning Fabry-Perot spectrometer and with an EMI photomultiplier tube (type 9558 B) sensitive in the red. The line λ = 6887·8 A is one of the most favourable lines for isotopic analysis of samples formed with the two isotopes Pu239 and Pu240.
