Analogue gravitational field from nonlinear fluid dynamics

title={Analogue gravitational field from nonlinear fluid dynamics},
  author={Satadal Datta and Uwe R. Fischer},
The dynamics of sound in a fluid is intrinsically nonlinear. We derive the consequences of this fact for the analogue gravitational field experienced by sound waves, by first describing generally how the nonlinearity of the equation for phase fluctuations back-reacts onto the definition of the background providing the effective space-time metric. Subsequently, we use the the analytical tool of Riemann invariants in one-dimensional motion to derive source terms of the effective gravitational…

Inherent nonlinearity of fluid motion and acoustic gravitational wave memory
We consider the propagation of nonlinear sound waves in a perfect fluid at rest. By employing the Riemann wave equation of nonlinear acoustics in one spatial dimension, it is shown that waves

Acoustic analog of gravitational wave
We explore nonlinear perturbations in different static fluid systems. We find that the equations, corresponding to the perturbation of the integrals of motion, i.e; Bernoulli's constant and the mass
Exact theory of the (Einstein) gravitational field in an arbitrary background space-time
The Lagrangian based theory of the gravitational field and its sources at the arbitrary background space-time is developed. The equations of motion and the energy-momentum tensor of the gravitational
Beyond Analog Gravity: The Case of Exceptional Dynamics
We show that it is possible to go beyond the propagation aspects usually contemplated in the analog models of gravity. Until now, the emergence of a metric appears in the description of excitations
Geometric scalar theory of gravity
The present article introduces a new scalar theory of gravity based on the Einstein’s assumption that gravitation is an expression of the geometrical structure of the spacetime. In the geometric
Analogue gravity from field theory normal modes
We demonstrate that the emergence of a curved spacetime `effective Lorentzian geometry' is a common and generic result of linearizing a classical scalar field theory around some non-trivial
Scattering of Co-Current Surface Waves on an Analogue Black Hole.
The measured scattering amplitudes are compatible with the predictions of the hydrodynamical theory, where the kinematical description in terms of the effective metric is exact.
Analogue gravity from Bose-Einstein condensates
We analyse prospects for the use of Bose–Einstein condensates as condensedmatter systems suitable for generating a generic ‘effective metric’, and for mimicking kinematic aspects of general
Gravity from self-interaction in a curved background
The full Einstein action is derived, by consistent self-coupling requirements, from the linear graviton action in an a priori arbitrary background geometry: flat space no longer plays a preferred

Wave "energy" and wave "momentum" conservation laws are established in a systematic manner by exploiting the mathematical analogy between the propagation of sound in a nonhomogeneous potential flow and the propagate of a scalar field in curved space-time.
Formation of shock waves in a Bose-Einstein condensate (8 pages)
We consider propagation of density wave packets in a Bose-Einstein condensate. We show that the shape of initially broad, laser-induced, density perturbation changes in the course of free time
