Reduction of trimethylamine N-oxide is catalyzed by at least two enzymes inEscherichia coli: trimethylamine N-oxide reductase, which is anaerobically induced by trimethylamine N-oxide, and the constitutive enzyme dimethyl sulfoxide reductase.
