Glyphium encompasses species with erect, carbonaceous ligulate to dolabrate ascomata that are strongly laterally compressed and dehisce along a longitudinal slit. The five currently recognized members of the genus are separated primarily by whether the ascospores disassociate into part-spores within the ascus. Glyphium has traditionally been placed in Mytilinidiaceae (Mytilinidiales, Pleosporomycetidae, Dothideomycetes). The present study, based on freshly collected material of G. elatum and G… Expand
DISCOMYCETES: the apothecial representatives of the phylum Ascomycota
TLDR
A historical perspective of discomycetes is provided, notes on their morphology (including both asexual and sexual morphs), ecology and importance, an outline of disComycete families and a synoptical cladogram of currently accepted families in AscomyCota showing their systematic position are provided. Expand
Septonema lohmanii G. Delgado & O. Koukol, sp. nov., a New Species in Mytilinidiales (Dothideomycetes) and the Phylogenetic Position of S. fasciculare (Corda) S. Hughes
TLDR
Multigene phylogenetic analyses including nuclear ribosomal (LSU) and protein coding gene (EF1-α) sequence data suggest that both collections are conspecific and belong to the order Mytilinidiales (Dothideomycetes, Ascomycota) where they group distant from other mytilinidiaceous fungi with known septonema-like anamorphs. Expand
Multigene Phylogeny Coupled with Morphological Characterization Reveal Two New Species of Holmiella and Taxonomic Insights within Patellariaceae
TLDR
Phylogenetic reconstruction based on analyses of ribosomal DNA of Holmiella species, strongly supports the three currently recognized taxa (H. junipericola, H.juniperi-semiglobosae and H. sabina) as a monophyletic group. Expand
Asterodiscus and Stigmatodiscus, two new apothecial dothideomycete genera and the new order Stigmatodiscales
TLDR
During a survey on corticolous Dothideomycetes, several collections with ascospores matching the genera Asterodiscus and Stigmatomassaria were revealed from dead corticated twigs of Acer, Carpinus and Tamarix, and they are described and illustrated, and placed in the new family Stigmatodiscaceae and new order Stigmaodiscales. Expand
Bezerromycetales and Wiesneriomycetales ord. nov. (class Dothideomycetes), with two novel genera to accommodate endophytic fungi from Brazilian cactus
TLDR
Two new genera (Bezerromyces and Xiliomyces), a new family and a new order are introduced to accommodate these novel taxa, here introduced as Wiesneriomycetales. Expand
Hidden diversity in Thyridaria and a new circumscription of the Thyridariaceae
TLDR
The new family Nigrogranaceae is erected for Nigrograna and the use of the family name Biatriosporaceae is recommended until fresh material of B. marina becomes available for sequencing. Expand
South Florida microfungi: a new species of Taeniolella (anamorphic Sordariomycetes) isolated from cabbage palm
TLDR
Phylogenetic analyses based on partial nuclear ribosomal large subunit (LSU) and internal transcribed spacer sequence data suggest the fungus is distinct from other Taeniolella species and possess affinities with members of Sordariomycetidae (Ascomycota) but its ordinal or familial position within the subclass remains uncertain. Expand
Refined families of Dothideomycetes: orders and families incertae sedis in Dothideomycetes
TLDR
A refined updated document on orders and families incertae sedis of Dothideomycetes is provided, including an updated description, notes, including figures to represent the morphology, a list of accepted genera, and economic and ecological significances and phylogenetic trees for each order. Expand
Stigmatodiscus pruni, a new dothideomycete with hysteriform ascomata.
TLDR
Micromorphology of the sexual and asexual morph matches the genus Stigmatodiscus, except for the hysteriform shape of the ascomata and the two-celled ascospores. Expand
Notes for genera: Ascomycota
TLDR
This work is intended to provide the foundation for updating the ascomycete component of the “Without prejudice list of generic names of Fungi” published in 2013, which will be developed into a list of protected generic names. Expand

The phylogeny of Arthoniales (Pezizomycotina) inferred from nucLSU and RPB2 sequences
A two-locus phylogenetic study of the order Arthoniales is presented here using the nuclear ribosomal large subunit (nucLSU) and the second largest subunit of RNA polymerase II (RPB2). This analysisExpand
Taxonomy and phylogeny of Gliocladium analysed from nuclear large subunit ribosomal DNA sequences
TLDR
The results indicate that Gliocladium is polyphyletic and that G. penicillioides, G. roseum, and Trichoderma virens, are generically distinct. Expand
Corticolous and lignicolous Pyrenomycetes s.lat. (Ascomycetes) on Salix along a mid-Scandinavian transect
TLDR
This investigation addressed the unsolved problems listed in the previous study and the same 29 taxa are treated and the following new species are described: Amphisphaerella erikssonii, Glyphium grisonense, and Saccardoella kanderana are described. Expand
On the evolution of the Hysteriaceae and Mytilinidiaceae (Pleosporomycetidae, Dothideomycetes, Ascomycota) using four nuclear genes.
TLDR
It is concluded that the evolution of the hysterothecium occurred multiple times within the Pleosporomycetidae, and alone it is not a synapomorphic character state for the Hysteriaceae. Expand
Molecular systematics of the marine Dothideomycetes
TLDR
Specific attention is given to the adaptation of the Dothideomycetes to the marine milieu, new lineages of marine fungi and their host specificity. Expand
Systematics of Lyophyllum section Difformia based on evidence from culture studies and ribosomal DNA sequences
TLDR
Results of parsimony analyses based on 250 nucleotide positions from 18 strains support species groupings within the L. decastes complex which are consistent with differences in fruit body morphology and culture characters, and indicate that section Dijformia is not monophyletic. Expand
Families of Dothideomycetes
TLDR
Dothideomycetes comprise a highly diverse range of fungi characterized mainly by asci with two wall layers (bitunicate asci) and often with fissitunicate dehiscence, and it is hoped that by illustrating types they provide stimulation and interest so that more work is carried out in this remarkable group of fungi.
