The karst areas in Croatia, part of the Dinarides, have been defined biospeleologically as an -ea of high biodiversity in world terms, covering 26 thousand km2 in all. In this monograph we ; :ue data about the biodiversity of subterranean habitats and their biota primarily from a taxo ~mic perspective with special attention being paid to regional diversity. The diversified geomor-:~.ology, hydrology and climate have resulted in a remarkable range of different underground hab:• , in Croatia, viz…
DISTRIBUTION OF AUSTROPOTAMOBIUS PALLIPES (Lereboullet) IN CROATIA AND NOTES ON ITS MORPHOLOGY
TLDR
All of the available historical data and recent ones on the distribution of white-clawed crayfish (Austropotamobius pallipes) in Croatia were pooled together to get a better insight into the distribution.
Vicariance, dispersal and scale in the aquatic subterranean fauna of karst regions
TLDR
Evidence is found for the importance of both vicariance and dispersal in the distribution patterns of stygobionts (obligate subterranean-dwelling aquatic species), and the techniques employed could be used to study these patterns more generally, as more data become available.
CATALOGUE AND ATLAS OF CAVE-DWELLING TERRESTRIAL ISOPODS (CRUSTACEA: ONISCIDEA) FROM CROATIA
TLDR
This paper presents a checklist with historical overview and new records on the cave-dwelling terrestrial isopods (troglophiles and troglobionts) from Croatia, based on detailed analyses of available literature and unpublished data from collections.
The distribution pattern of freshwater crayfish in Croatia
TLDR
This research confirmed the presence of three crayfish species in Croatia: Astacus astacus (Linnaeus, 1758), Austropotamobius torrentium (Schrank, 1803), and Austropodactylus pallipes and Orconectes limosus (Rafinesque, 1817), and gathered all the available unpublished data, as well as data from the literature and those of their own investigations.
Croatian freshwater oligochaetes: species diversity, distribution and relationship to surrounding countries.
TLDR
The Croatian oligochaete fauna was most similar to that of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Hungary and Austria, and species richness varied between habitat types, with rivers as the most speciose habitats.
Zoogeografske značajke faune vodozemaca Hrvatske
Knowledge on the zoogeography of the amphibians of Croatia, as well as on their ecology, has been rather scarce and based on papers dealing with this subject in the framework of the research
The distribution of benthic foraminifera in Bel Torrente submarine cave (Sardinia, Italy) and their environmental significance.
TLDR
Benthic foraminifera, investigated for the first time in a submarine cave of temperate areas, were exclusively found from the entrance to 300 m inside the cave, suggesting a very efficient dispersal mechanism for the colonization of the caves, involving probably juvenile foraminaifera at a "propagule" stage.
Obligate groundwater fauna of France: diversity patterns and conservation implications
TLDR
A large proportion of species could be protected by focusing habitat conservation efforts on a few complementary species-rich aquifers located in distinct regions, indicating that biodiversity was underestimated.
Microscale Vicariance and Diversification of Western Balkan Caddisflies Linked to Karstification
TLDR
Species distribution model projections and genetic structure suggest that the endemic species persisted in situ and diversified locally throughout multiple Pleistocene climate cycles.
Nove špiljske vrste roda Troglohyphantes (Araneae, Linyphiidae) za faunu Hrvatske
TLDR
In this paper 5 species of cave-dwelling spiders of the genus Troglohyphantes are listed as new for the Croatian fauna and the total number of TroglOHyphante taxa in Croatia has risen to 22 taxa.

Distribution of Proteus (Amphibia : Urodela, Proteidae) and its possible explanation
TLDR
The paleogeographical and paleoclimatological data, in combination with the physiological requirements of Proteus, strongly suggest that these animals invaded the caves, at least in the NW parts of their ranges, only after the last glaciations, within the last 10,000 years.
Distribution patterns of some subterranean Crustacea in the territory of the former Yugoslavia
A selection of the most representative distribution patterns of stygobiont animals is presented. The range of a genus may extend beyond the Dinaride karst, while some species exhibit a holo-Dinaric
Observations on Cordyceps riverae (Hypocreales, Ascomycota) in Croatian caves
This paper appears to be the first contribution on cave macromycetes in Croatia. During the systematic biospeleological field work in the Dinaric karst area, eight more or less stable populations of
Two new Niphargus species (Amphipoda) from caves in Yugoslavia
During last 140 years, numerous members of the predominantly subterranean genus Niphargus Schioedte 1849 have been discovered and described in Yugoslavia by foreign and native scientists (d. G.
Fine-scale distribution of hypogean Ostracoda in the interstitial habitats of the Rivers Sava and Rhône
The small-scale distributions of three hypogean ostracods were studied in gravel bars in the Rivers Rhône and Sava. Fabaeformiscandona wegelini is widely distributed, whilst Mixtacandona n. sp. and
A SUBMARINE CAVE AT THE ISLAND OF KRK (NORTH ADRIATIC SEA)
ABSTRACT The submarine cave near Vrbnik is 30 m long and it has the shape of an irregular triangular prism. It was formed in upper Cretaceous limestone rocks. The mud and the stone blocks cover the
Diversity of bryozoans in a Mediterranean sublittoral cave with bathyal-like conditions: role of dispersal processes and local factors
TLDR
The present results suggest that the successful colonization of the cold homothermal cave by allochthonous larvae is likely to be dependent on rare pulse fluxes and is strongly limited by local abiotic and presumably biotic factors, and that the regional pool of deepwater bryozoans is not a probable source of settlers for onshore aphotic habitats.
World subterranean ostracod biogeography: dispersal or vicariance
TLDR
A biogeographical model similar to the dispersal one which foccus on the ecological processes occurring at local and/or regional scales is proposed which aims to better understand the modes of ostracod dispersal across a range of spatial scales.
Habitat Selection and Ecology of Two Speleophilic Gobiid Fishes(Pisces: Gobiidae) from the Western Mediterranean Sea
The life habits and microhabitat selection of speleophilic gobiid fishes were investigated on the Balearic Island of Ibiza (western Mediterranean Sea). Corcyrogobius liechtensteini (Kolombatovic,
