A total of 1,870 nonduplicate clinical Enterobacteriaceae from 13 teaching hospitals located in 11 provinces of mainland China from 2011 to 2012 were screened for the presence of the blaNDM gene. The high-throughput MiSeq sequencing method and comparative genomics were used to analyze the genetic environment of blaNDM among these isolates. This study reports the second case worldwide of an OXA-204-producing K. pneumoniae isolate from the same country, however, in a different genetic background, as well as investigating the first carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae isolates investigated.
