We describe the basic assumptions and key results of loop quantum gravity, which is a background independent approach to quantum gravity. The emphasis is on the basic physical principles and how one deduces predictions from them, at a level suitable for physicsts in other areas such as string theory, cosmology, particle physics, astrophysics and condensed matter physics. No details are given, but references are provided to guide the interested reader to the literature. The present state of…
Loop Quantum Gravity
An overview of ideas, techniques, results and open problems of this candidate theory of quantum gravity is given, and a guide to the relevant literature is given.
Loop Quantum Cosmology
L loop quantum cosmology is an application of loop quantum gravity to homogeneous systems, which removes classical singularities and introduces the main effects of quantum effects into effective classical equations, which allow one to avoid the interpretational problems of quantum theory.
Loop Quantum Cosmology
Quantum gravity is expected to be necessary in order to understand situations where classical general relativity breaks down. In particular in cosmology one has to deal with initial singularities,
The Quantum Potential in Gravity and Cosmology
The fundamental role of Bohm’s quantum potential in the treatment of gravity and thus in the general-relativistic domain has been explored by various authors (see, for example, the book of R. Carroll
Loop Quantum Cosmology corrections on gravity waves produced during primordial inflation
Loop Quantum Gravity (L.Q.G.) is one of the two most promising tentative theory for a quantum description of gravity. When applied to the entire universe, the so-called Loop Quantum Cosmology
A pr 2 00 6 1 Towards Gravity from the Quantum
The different approaches to quantum gravity, almost all of which are described in detail in the rest of this volume, can be classified according to what they say about spacetime and gravity. First,
Space and Particles at the Planck Scale by Tomasz Konopka
The aim of this thesis is to summarize some results in two approaches to studying how quantum gravity may be relevant for experiments. The first approach starts off by stating that one of the
Relating loop quantum cosmology to loop quantum gravity: symmetric sectors and embeddings
In this paper we address the meaning of states in loop quantum cosmology (LQC), in the context of loop quantum gravity. First, we introduce a rigorous formulation of an embedding proposed by Bojowald
Testing the master constraint programme for loop quantum gravity : V. Interacting field theories
This is the fifth and final paper in our series of five in which we test the master constraint programme for solving the Hamiltonian constraint in loop quantum gravity. Here we consider interacting

Background independent quantum gravity: A Status report
The goal of this review is to present an introduction to loop quantum gravity—a background-independent, non-perturbative approach to the problem of unification of general relativity and quantum
Loop Quantum Gravity
A general overview of ideas, techniques, results and open problems of this candidate theory of quantum gravity is provided, and a guide to the relevant literature is provided.
Quantum gravity with a positive cosmological constant
A quantum theory of gravity is described in the case of a positive cosmological constant in 3 + 1 dimensions. Both old and new results are described, which support the case that loop quantum gravity
Quantum gravity and inflation
Using the Ashtekar-Sen variables of loop quantum gravity, a new class of exact solutions to the equations of quantum cosmology is found for gravity coupled to a scalar field, that corresponds to
Loop quantum gravity and light propagation
Within loop quantum gravity we construct a coarse-grained approximation for the Einstein-Maxwell theory that yields effective Maxwell equations in flat spacetime comprising Planck scale corrections.
Introduction to Modern Canonical Quantum General Relativity
This is an introduction to the by now fifteen years old research field of canonical quantum general relativity, sometimes called "loop quantum gravity". The term "modern" in the title refers to the
Quantum theory from quantum gravity
We provide a mechanism by which, from a background-independent model with no quantum mechanics, quantum theory arises in the same limit in which spatial properties appear. Starting with an arbitrary
Planck-scale models of the Universe
Suppose the usual description of spacetime as a 4-dimensional manifold with a Lorentzian metric breaks down at Planck energies. Can we still construct sensible theoretical models of the universe? Are
The classical limit and the form of the hamiltonian constraint in nonperturbative quantum gravity
It is argued that some approaches to non-perturbative quantum general relativity lack a sensible continuum limit that reproduces general relativity. The basic problem is that generic physical states
