A bstractWe describe the experience of an observer falling into a black hole using the AdS/CFT correspondence. In order to do this, we reconstruct the local bulk operators measured by the observer along his trajectory outside the black hole. We then extend our construction beyond the black hole horizon. We show that this is possible because of an effective doubling of the observables in the boundary theory, when it is in a purestate that is close to the thermal state. Our construction allows us…

A bstractWe develop the representation of infalling observers and bulk fields in the CFT as a way to understand the black hole interior in AdS. We first discuss properties of CFT states which are…

A bstractWe argue that the region behind the horizon of a one-sided black hole can be probed by an analogue of the double-trace deformation protocol of Gao-Jafferis-Wall. This is achieved via a…

A bstractWe consider bulk quantum fields in AdS/CFT in the background of an eternal black hole. We show that for black holes with finite entropy, correlation functions of semiclassical bulk operators…

A bstractWe propose a 1+1 dimensional CFT dual structure for quantum gravity and matter on the extended 2 + 1 dimensional BTZ black hole, realized as a quotient of the Poincaré patch of AdS3. The…
No Holography for Eternal AdS Black Holes

It is generally believed that the eternal AdS black hole is dual to two conformal field theories with compact spatial sections that are together in a thermofield double state. We argue that this…

A bstractClassically, the horizon of a Schwarzschild black hole (BH) is a rigid surface of infinite redshift; whereas the uncertainty principle dictates that the semiclassical (would-be) horizon…

We present a quantum theory of black hole (and other) horizons, in which the standard assumptions of complementarity are preserved without contradicting information theoretic considerations. After…

We revisit the ``state-dependence'' of the map that we proposed recently between bulk operators in the interior of a large anti--de Sitter black hole and operators in the boundary CFT. By refining…

A bstractWe consider the fate of a small classical object, a “stick”, as it falls through the horizon of a large black hole (BH). Classically, the equivalence principle dictates that the stick is…
