Normally in Sciara males the sex chromosome constitution of the soma (XmO) differs from that of the germ line (XmXp), the single X being of maternal origin. Males which are patroclinous for their sex-linked genes (XpO) are found regularly among the progeny of females heterozygous for any one of a number of X-translocations (X′ Xt).
