Abstract The wake of a model wind turbine with a rotor diameter of 0.9 m has been investigated at the design condition (tip speed ratio = 6) in a closed return wind tunnel with a cross-section of 1.8 by 2.7 m. The three bladed rotor was operated in a low turbulence intensity uniform flow. Velocity data were obtained in the wake using a four-wire hot-wire probe at 18 radial traverses from x / D = 0.22 to 5.
