Abstract Three methods for measurement of soil phospholipid material were compared for their relative efficiencies. When applied to a few Saskatchewan soils, the Hance and Anderson (1963) method, and a modification employing hexane-acctone (1:1, v/v) as the extractant and a more vigorous but shorter shaking period, indicated phospholipid contents of 3–5 ppm P.
