As light emitting diodes (LEDs) have become increasingly accepted as a light source in many applications, the demand for dimming LEDs has also increased. Typically LEDs are supplied with voltage source. Dimming is accomplished by adjusting the average current in the LEDs through pulse width modulation of a switch in series with the load. This paper proposes a technique that uses a current source as the base supply. The average current is adjusted with a switch in parallel to the load. This…

Evaluation on the Efficiency of Power LEDs Driven with Currents Typical to Switch Mode Power Supplies

TLDR
This paper shows an examination of two white LEDs considering the resulting losses in luminous efficiency if the LEDs will be driven with different current waveforms as they typically occur in switch-mode power supplies.

A dimmable LED driver with an ambient light sensor based on a constant off-time control technique

This paper presents an asynchronous boost-type light-emitting diode (LED) driver, integrating an ambient light sensor (ALS), based on a constant off-time control technique. The LED driver

Review of Dimming Techniques for Solid-State LED Lights

TLDR
It is showed that PWM and pulse current techniques exhibits better dimming as compared to other dimming techniques discussed in this paper.

Parallel dimming for reducing the intensity of High Power Light-Emitting Diode (HP-LED) is an effective way of achieving high contrast ratio and wide dimming range. However the scheme has limitation

Wall switch based LED light dimming system

TLDR
The new LED light dimming system by using the light switch is described and experimental results that show proposed Dimming system is valid are presented.

A simple LED driver with low dimming switch stress

TLDR
This paper aims to investigate the low dimming switch stress of a light-emitting diode (LED) driver and presents a low switch stress scheme, which acts by altering the feedback path instead of cutting off the main power flow and does not need a power level switch.

A Balancing Strategy and Implementation of Current Equalizer for High Power LED Backlighting

This paper presents a current equalizer to balance the driving currents for high power LEDs (light emitting diode). The proposed strategy combined PWM strategy and digital dimming control to achieve

On Driving Techniques for LEDs: Toward a Generalized Methodology

LEDs must be externally driven by power sources to emit light. One problem associated with driving LEDs is its inherent nonlinear relation between the emission intensity and the forward current.

Voltage-Controlled GaN HEMT-LED Devices as Fast-Switching and Dimmable Light Emitters

This letter reports a novel voltage-controlled light emitter with fast switching speed and dimming capability using a monolithically integrated GaN HEMT-LED device. The integrated HEMT-LED device,

Bilevel Current Driving Technique for LEDs

The significant improvements recently achieved in LED technology in terms of lifetime, luminous efficacy, power rating, and color property render LED one of the most promising candidates to replace
