The anxiolytic-like effects of Ginkgo biloba extract (GBE) and its four terpenoid components (ginkgolide-A, ginkgolide-B, ginkgolide-C, and bilobalide) were assessed using the elevated plus-maze test in mice. Administration of GBE as a single oral dose (0.5 or 1 g/kg, po) caused a state of suppressed motor activity and, thus, shortened the time spent in the open-sided arms. However, when GBE (0.063-1 g/kg, po) was administered daily for 7 days and the plus-maze test was carried out 24 h after… Expand
Effects of bilobalide on anxiety, spatial learning, memory and levels of hippocampal glucocorticoid receptors in male Kunming mice.
It is suggested that bilobalide reduces anxiety levels and enhances spatial learning and memory, possibly through an increase in hippocampal glucocorticoid receptor expression, and provides an important candidate drug in treatment of anxiety, depression, hypomnesia and amnesia. Expand
Chronic administration of a Ginkgo biloba leaf extract facilitates acquisition but not performance of a working memory task
It is concluded that ongoing Ginkgo administration does not offer any continued beneficial effects in an already-learned working memory task and neither acute nor chronic post-training exposure enhances spatial working memory. Expand
Effects of standardized Ginkgo biloba extract on the acquisition, retrieval and extinction of conditioned suppression: Evidence that short-term memory and long-term memory are differentially modulated
The current findings suggest that EGb differentially modulates short- and long-term memory, as well as anxiety-like behavior, which suggests that EG b has anti-anxiety effects. Expand
Regional distribution of Ginkgo biloba-induced c-Fos immunoreactivity.
Results provide important preliminary data serving to identify several candidate neural sites involved in the cognitive enhancing and anxiolytic effects of Ginkgo biloba. Expand
Neural and Behavioural Effects of the Ginkgo biloba Leaf Extract Egb 761
The possible neurogenic-enhancing effects of Ginkgo on adult hippocampal neurogenesis as a possible mechanism underlying its nootropic effects have not been evaluated, and experiments discussed in the present thesis assessed such a possibility. Expand
The Effects of Ginkgo Biloba Extract EGb 761 on Mechanical and Cold Allodynia in a Rat Model of Neuropathic Pain
It is concluded that Ginkgo biloba extract, EGb 761, attenuates mechanical and cold allodynia in a rat model of neuropathic pain, and it may be useful for the management of Neuropathic pain. Expand
Antioxidant effects of ginkgolides and bilobalide against cerebral ischemia injury by activating the Akt/Nrf2 pathway in vitro and in vivo
Experimental data in vitro and in vivo confirm that GA, GB, GK, and BB resulted in significant decrease of ROS and increase of SOD activities and protein levels of HO-1 and Nqo1; however, GB group had a significant advantage in comparison with the GA and GK groups. Expand
The effects of Ginkgo biloba extract on cognitive functions in aged female rats: The role of oxidative stress and brain-derived neurotrophic factor
It is concluded that GBE supplementation improved cognitive functions by decreasing oxidative damage and increasing the BDNF level in aged female rats. Expand
Perfil neurofarmacológico de la fracción butanólica de las hojas de Cecropia peltata L.
It is suggested that flavonoid metabolites play a key role in the pharmacological activity of  Cecropia peltata  and support the traditional use of this species. Expand
Current Perspectives on the Beneficial Role of Ginkgo biloba in Neurological and Cerebrovascular Disorders
The therapeutic mechanisms of the individual EGb 761 constituents are explored to explain the pharmacology as a whole and its clinical application to cardiovascular and neurological disorders, in particular ischemic stroke. Expand
